A quiet downtown street in Haines City with pink flowers in the corner planters and tall oaks down the block

Haines City has grown faster than any other Polk city I cover, and if you moved here with Medicare, the move matters: it can open a window to switch plans, and plans can be sold county by county. I'm Jeannie Pond, NPN 8940178, a Medicare agent based in Lakeland, and I help in person by appointment, or by phone or Google Meet if you'd rather. Social Security's locator lists Winter Haven first, and AdventHealth Heart of Florida in Davenport is the hospital to check.

Haines City has grown fast, and if you moved here with Medicare from another state or county, your plan may not work the way it did back home. I'm Jeannie Pond, licensed since 2009 and working as a Medicare agent out of Lakeland. We can sort that out face to face by appointment, or by phone or Google Meet, starting with the card in your wallet.

What moving here does to the plan you brought

  • Moved here? You get time to switch

If you move out of your plan's service area, or to a place with new plan options, Medicare.gov says your chance to switch begins when you move and continues for 2 full months after. Original Medicare itself works with any doctor or hospital that takes Medicare, anywhere in the U.S.

  • No new plan? Original Medicare by default

If your Medicare Advantage plan doesn't serve your new address and you don't join another one during the moving window, Medicare.gov says you'll be enrolled in Original Medicare when the old plan drops you. Original Medicare doesn't include drug coverage on its own, so it's worth choosing the next plan before that window closes.

  • AdventHealth Heart of Florida in Davenport

CMS Care Compare doesn't list a hospital inside Haines City. On its Polk list, AdventHealth Heart of Florida sits on US 27 in neighboring Davenport, so that's the name we look up in a plan's directory, along with your doctors.

  • Kissimmee is second on the list

Social Security's locator puts Winter Haven's Havendale Boulevard office first for ZIP 33844, at 8.7 miles. Second is an office over in Kissimmee, on West Vine Street, 17.5 miles away. With a my Social Security account, Social Security says you can get help without visiting an office at all.

I just moved to Haines City. Do I need a new Medicare plan?

Maybe. If your Medicare Advantage or drug plan doesn't serve Polk County, you'll need one that does, and Medicare.gov gives you a Special Enrollment Period that starts when you move and runs 2 full months after. If you have Original Medicare, that part comes with you.
